SQUAMISH, B.C. — Police say they are searching for a man who was swept into the Squamish River in B.C. early Sunday morning.
Squamish RCMP say a woman called at about 1 a.m. to report her friend had fallen into the river.
They say the two had been camping with friends on Ashlu Forest Service Road, north of Squamish.
Police say they are working with search and rescue crews to find the man, but add the search has been difficult due to high water levels and extreme current from the spring melt.
They say witnesses told them the river was running fast and the man was swept up by the current.
The man, who's from Kenya, is in his mid-20s, and was wearing a white T-shirt, grey sweat pants and a black Adidas hoody.
Police say they are not going to identify him until they are able to contact his next of kin.
