Search For Two People On Mackenzie River In N.W.T. Turns To Recovery Effort

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 28 Sep, 2015 11:49 AM
  • Search For Two People On Mackenzie River In N.W.T. Turns To Recovery Effort
TSIIGEHTCHIC, Canada — RCMP in the Northwest Territories say a search for two people that began after a capsized canoe was found on the Mackenzie River has turned into a recovery effort.

Mounties says personal items discovered during the search have led police to believe the pair drowned.

Fishing gear and other supplies found with the canoe near Tsiigehtchic last week led officers to believe the two fell into the river.

Police say the pair's fishing camp was located and there was no evidence of foul play.

RCMP searchers will be scaling back their efforts over the next few days.

The investigation will remain open as a missing-persons case.
