Seaplane Theft: Vancouver Police Release Suspect Images

Darpan News Desk, 26 Feb, 2020 05:49 PM

Vancouver Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man who broke into the Harbour Air seaplane terminal in the Vancouver harbour on Friday and stole a seaplane.

“This was a very unique scenario and one our members don’t see every day,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “It was a very dangerous situation and we are thankful that no one was injured.”

Police believe that the suspect broke into the facility, and then broke into one of the seaplanes in the harbour. He managed to start the plane and attempted to take off. However, he was unsuccessful and crashed the plane into several other docked Harbour Air seaplanes. The seaplanes sustained extensive damage.

The suspect is described as white and in his 40s. He is believed to be about 5’10” tall with an average build. He has short brown hair with a slightly receding hairline. He is clean-shaven and has a pronounced brow ridge. The suspect was wearing a red long-sleeved zip-up sweater, dark pants, and dress shoes.

Investigators believe that the suspect has working knowledge of planes and are urging members of the aviation community and the public to contact police if they recognize the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 604-717-0610, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
