Saskatchewan Health Officials Look Into Needles, Scalpels Found In Hospital Linen

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Nov, 2016 12:02 PM
REGINA — The Opposition in Saskatchewan says it's alarmed that sharp objects have been found in clean hospital linen.

NDP critic Nicole Sarauer says a recent Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region newsletter notes that staff have discovered syringes and surgical scissors and scalpels.

She says it shows that privatization of hospital laundry services has been a mistake.

Health Minister Jim Reiter says he's concerned and has asked officials to look into the problem.

But he says sharp objects have been found in hospital linen before in Saskatchewan and in other hospitals across Canada.

Reiter says privatization of hospital laundry services has saved millions of dollars and those funds are being used to provide important front-line health care services.
