Russia expels Canadian diplomat

Garima Goswami, IANS, 22 Apr, 2014 12:22 PM

Russia has ordered a first-secretary at the Canadian embassy in Moscow to leave the country, in retaliation for the expulsion of a Russian assistant military attaché earlier from Ottawa.

As per news reports, the first secretary of the immigration section of the Canadian embassy in Moscow has been ordered to leave Russia.

The move comes shortly after Canada ousted Russia's assistant military attaché from Ottawa earlier this month.

The recent Russia-Ukraine crisis that resulted in Russia taking over Crimea has escalated tensions between Russia and the other countries.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper called Russia's actions in Ukraine a threat to world peace.
