Rural Saskatchewan Hospital Suspends ER Services Because Of Lack Of Staff

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 May, 2016 12:07 PM
PREECEVILLE, Sask. — Emergency room services are being suspended at a rural Saskatchewan hospital due to lack of staff.

The Sunrise Health Region says in a news release that acute inpatient admissions and ER services will be suspended at the Preeceville and District Health Centre starting June 1.

The region says it's a temporary move until "predictable, consistent and sustainable on-call coverage is secured."

It says the facility is not closing and will still be used for lab and X-ray services, long-term care and the primary health-care clinic.

The region says Preeceville has one physician and a nurse practitioner who will continue to provide clinic appointments at the primary health care clinic.

NDP health critic Danielle Chartier calls the closure unacceptable.
