Robert Pickton's Brother Wants Sexual-assault Civil Lawsuit Pushed Back Again

The Canadian Press, 17 Jun, 2015 01:02 PM
VANCOUVER — A lawyer for the brother of convicted serial killer Robert Pickton is expected in court this morning to ask a judge to postpone a lawsuit alleging his client threatened to rape and kill a woman more than two decades ago.

Documents filed in B.C. Supreme Court reveal David Pickton wants the civil case adjourned because his lawyer is no longer available for the trial set to begin next Monday.

The woman's counsel Jason Gratl rejects the application, saying the trial has already been repeatedly rescheduled to accommodate Pickton's lawyer.

In a sworn affidavit, a counsellor for the woman says another adjournment could have a disastrous impact on her client's mental health.

A notice of civil claim filed in November 2013 alleges Pickton sexually assaulted the woman on a construction site in August 1991 before threatening to rape and kill her.

The same document indicates Pickton was convicted of the sexual assault in Burnaby provincial court the following year.
