Rob Wells, Alberta Man Gets $543 Ticket For Posting Anti-Harper Sign In Car Window

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Aug, 2015 12:42 PM
EDMONTON — An Edmonton man says he plans to fight a traffic ticket he was given for sticking a crude political message in the rear window of his car.

Rob Wells says he posted the hand-made, pink "F--k Harper" sign a week ago to voice his contempt for Stephen Harper's Conservative government in the upcoming federal election.

He says a Mountie pulled him over Sunday south of Edmonton and demanded he remove the sign because another driver had complained.

When he refused to take down the sign, the officer handed him a $543 fine under the section of the Highway Traffic Act that prevents distracting other drivers.

Wells says he will be in court in November to argue against the ticket and also plans to file a complaint with the RCMP.

He says he put a bumper sticker disparaging former premier Ralph Klein on his car 15 years ago and Edmonton police decided he wasn't breaking any laws.
