Rituraj Kaur Grewal Charged In Surrey Crash That Killed 17-Year-Old Soccer Captain Travis Selje

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 26 Oct, 2018 03:20 PM
SURREY, B.C. — RCMP say three charges have been laid against a young Surrey, B.C., woman following two crashes in that city that killed a teenager and injured another

Police say Rituraj Kaur Grewal, who was 22 at the time of the May 2017 collisions, faces charges of criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of a crash.

Grewal was released on conditions when she appeared in a Surrey court on Tuesday and has been ordered to return to court Nov. 13.

The investigation began May 3, 2017, when a black Cadillac did not stop after a crash in the Cloverdale area and then rear-ended a second vehicle several blocks away.

No one was hurt in the first collision but the teenaged occupants of the second vehicle were trapped in their crushed Honda Prelude.

The 17-year-old driver died a short time later in hospital, while his teenaged passenger was badly hurt but recovered.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Elenore Sturko says the year-long probe was complex.

"This was a tragic incident that claimed the life of a promising young athlete in our community and injured another person," Sturko says in the release.
