Riley Dobson Of Guelph Identified As Teen Victim Of Fatal Hawaiian Chopper Crash

The Canadian Press, 24 Feb, 2016 11:24 AM
GUELPH, Ont. — A 16-year-old Canadian teenager who died on Monday after being injured in a helicopter crash in Hawaii last week has been identified as Riley Dobson of Guelph, Ont.

He and three family members were aboard a tour helicopter when it crashed near the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center last Thursday.

His parents remain in hospital in Hawaii in stable condition and his brother has been treated and released from hospital.

Dobson, who was well-known in Ontario’s show jumping community, attended Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph.

The Upper Grand District School Board issued a statement Tuesday that said it is "extremely saddened" to learn of the death and that supports are available for staff and students through guidance counsellors and other staff.

Witnesses have said Dobson was trapped underwater and had to be cut free from his seat. Gidget Ruscetta, the chief operating officer at Pali Momi Medical Center, said Dobson's family "has chosen to donate his organs to patients in need." (570News)

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
