Rental protection for BC residents

The British Columbia government says its 500-million-dollar rental-protection fund will help renters stay in their homes and keep their rents affordable.

The province has opened access to the fund that will help non-profit groups purchase rental buildings.

It says more than 97-thousand units where the rent was below one-thousand-dollars a month were lost between 2016 and 2021.

The units were converted to condominiums, demolished or the price of rent went up.

The province is offering 500-thousand dollars in grants for programs or plans aimed at helping seniors lead independent, active lives. Applications open June 1st for the age-friendly grants, which can be as much as 25-thousand dollars each.
