RCMP Used 'closer' To Finish Undercover B.C. Terror Operation: Senior Mountie

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Oct, 2015 05:51 PM
VANCOUVER — A senior Mountie says the RCMP called in a new lead investigator during the 11th hour of a June 2013 terrorism probe because it knew he could "close" the case.

Insp. Stephen Corcoran has told B.C. Supreme Court that Staff-Sgt. Vaz Kassam joined the operation in June 2013, one week before a couple was arrested for plotting to bomb the B.C. Legislature on Canada Day.

A jury found John Nuttall and Amanda Korody guilty of terrorism earlier this year, but the couple's lawyers are in court arguing the police manipulated them into committing the crime.

Court has previously heard Nuttall and Korody were recovering drug addicts who were living on welfare and wanted to avenge what they saw as Canada's mistreatment of Muslims overseas.

Corcoran was put in charge of monitoring the undercover operation's command team in May 2013.

Other members of the investigative team are expected to testify later in the trial.
