RCMP Officer Faces Driving Charge In Chilliwack, B.C., After Pedestrian Hit

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 27 Mar, 2019 06:59 PM

CHILLIWACK, B.C. — The BC Prosecution Service says an RCMP officer has been charged with driving without due care and attention.

The charge was filed after a pedestrian was hit last year by a Mountie, who was on-duty at the time.

The crash occurred on March 30, 2018, in Chilliwack, B.C.

Const. Yannick Leblanc is scheduled to appear in Chilliwack provincial court on April 23.

British Columbia's civilian police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office, says the woman who was hit suffered "serious injuries."

The prosecution service says it approved the charge following a report by the IIO.

It says the charge was approved by Crown counsel in a different part of the province who has no connection to the officer.
