RCMP Issue Warning After Man Found Dead And Woman Attacked On Same Burnaby Block

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 21 Apr, 2015 09:46 AM
BURNABY, B.C. — RCMP have issued a public warning after a woman was attacked on the same Burnaby, B.C., block where a man's body was found three days before.

Police say the woman was walking home around 1:40 a.m. Sunday when a man attacked her from behind and knocked her to the ground (near Smith Avenue and Gilpin Street).

A homicide investigation was launched after Elmer Libertino was found dead in the same area (near Smith Avenue and Moscrop Street) just after 3 a.m. last Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis says police don't know if Libertino's death is linked to the attack, or if there's any connection to an online geo-tagging game that was being played in the area the night he was discovered.

Buis says they're putting a lot of resources into their investigation.

Mounties are advising people in the area to be vigilant and to travel in pairs if possible, especially if walking late at night. (News 1130)
