RCMP Detachment In Nanaimo, B.C., Partially Closed Over Suspicious Packages

The Canadian Press, 20 Mar, 2019 07:10 PM

NANAIMO, B.C. — Two suspicious packages found on a lawn adjacent to the RCMP detachment in Nanaimo, B.C., caused a partial closure of the police station Tuesday.

RCMP say the two cardboard packages were found at about 10:30 a.m., but were later deemed safe by the explosives disposal unit.

The Mounties say out of an abundance of caution, they evacuated a section of the detachment and closed the building to the public.

An RCMP explosives dog carried out a preliminary assessment of the packages before the disposal unit was consulted.

Police say its 911 and non-emergency phone lines were not affected.
