RCMP cancels Amber Alert after locating Alberta girls

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 15 May, 2014 01:50 PM

The mother of two Alberta sisters who abducted them is in custody and the girls are now safe.

The Amber Alert that was issued Wednesday has been cancelled and helped gathering public tips that assisted the officials to locate Taya Meisel,6, and Talisha, 12, along with their mother, Trina Meisel, 48.

"The two girls are OK and investigators are working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development with respect to their care," said BC RCMP Sergeant Rob Vermeulen in a news release.

The two girls went missing Monday after being picked up from their school.

Two days after the girls went missing the RCMP issued an Amber Alert over concerns that the sisters might be in danger. However, the alert was cancelled in mere hours after leads from the public.

Trina does not have legal guardianship of the two children and as per news reports she is facing a number of unrelated charges.

Mounties informed media that the girls have been put in custody of the BC Ministry of Children and Families and their relatives from Alberta are heading to meet them soon.
