Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for northwest and coastal regions of the province.

The warning covers the northern coast, as well as Haida Gwaii and inland regions including Kitimat, Stewart and Terrace.

It says a strong storm will bring between 50 and 100 millimetres of heavy rain that is expected to intensify today.

The agency is warning people about possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts as flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

Police say they received calls yesterday afternoon of the suspect wielding a machete and breaking windows while assaulting people in the 21-hundred block of Duggan Road.
