Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for northwest and coastal regions of the province.

The warning covers the northern coast, as well as Haida Gwaii and inland regions including Kitimat, Stewart and Terrace.

It says a strong storm will bring between 50 and 100 millimetres of heavy rain that is expected to intensify today.

The agency is warning people about possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts as flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

About 800 litres of light hydraulic oil have spilled into the sea from a BC Ferries vessel after one of its propellers fell off this week. BC Ferries says the type of oil leaked "disperses quickly in the marine environment" and no oil sheens have been detected as a result of the spill from the 60-year-old Queen of New Westminster.
