Quebecer Motorist Gets Upgraded Charges After 4-Year-Old Boy Dies From Crash Injuries

The Canadian Press, 08 Aug, 2015 01:52 PM
SAGUENAY, Que. — A Quebec motorist who is being detained in the deaths of a couple and their four-year-old son had some of the charges against him upgraded Friday.

Yves Martin was already facing charges of impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death with regard to the adults, who died on impact in last Saturday's collision of vehicles.

Martin, 35, was originally charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in the boy's case but they were upgraded Friday after the child's death earlier this week.

He had been on life-support after the crash in Saguenay, about 250 kilometres north of Quebec City.

The victims were Mathieu Perron, 27, and Vanessa Viger, 26, and Patrick Perron.

    Viger was five months pregnant.

Martin is scheduled to return to court Wednesday.

Crown prosecutor Marie-Josee Hamelin said Friday that Martin could face upgraded charges after his blood test results are released.
