Quebec Woman Who Stopped For Ducks To Have Sentencing Hearing On Sept. 19

The Canadian Pres , 08 Aug, 2014 11:39 AM
MONTREAL - A sentencing hearing has been postponed for a Quebec woman found guilty in the deaths of two motorcyclists who colliided with her car after she stopped for ducks on a Montreal-area highway.

Emma Czornobaj was convicted by a jury of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

Her sentencing hearing has been put off until Sept. 19.

Czornobaj is appealing her conviction in the June 2010 deaths of Andre Roy and his teenage daughter Jessie.

The trial heard Czornobaj had stopped her car on a highway to rescue ducklings on the side of the road when a motorcycle carrying the victims slammed into her car.

Pauline Volkakis, Roy's widow and Jessie's mother, will deliver a victim impact statement in September.
