Princess Anne begins a two-day visit to Ottawa to take part in Remembrance Day

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Nov, 2014 10:44 AM

OTTAWA — Princess Anne has arrived in Canada for a two-day visit.

The visit by the second child and only daughter of the Queen and Prince Philip was announced in September.

It is intended as a celebration of everyday heroes, including veteran police officers and aboriginal youth.

But the visit also took on new meaning after the deaths of two Canadian soldiers in terror-related incidents.

The Princess Royal will attend the National Remembrance Day ceremony tomorrow in Ottawa, along with the Governor General and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Anne is being welcomed to Rideau Hall by Gov. Gen. David Johnston, who says the visit is a fitting tribute to Canada's military as it will include a re-dedication of the war memorial.
