Prince George RCMP Seek Suspect Responsible For Huge 2015 Wildfire

The Canadian Press, 06 May, 2016 11:07 AM
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — As several major wildfires rage in northeastern British Columbia, Prince George RCMP are still searching for the person, or people, suspected of sparking a forest fire one year ago.

The Bobtail Lake blaze was first spotted on May 8, 2015.

It charred 240 square kilometres of woodland 50 kilometres southwest of Prince George and forced evacuation of properties at Norman Lake and Naltesby Lake, also known as Bobtail Lake.

The fire took weeks to control, and RCMP and Wildfire Management Branch officials confirm it was human-caused.

They believe someone has details that could identify a suspect and lead to charges.

In addition to significant fines or jail terms, B.C.'s Wildfire Act can require anyone convicted of starting a wildfire to repay all the costs of battling the blaze.
