Darpan News Desk, 14 Nov, 2016 01:01 PM
VICTORIA – Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement to mark the anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion:

“Today marks the  547th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru.

“One of the most important observances in the Sikh calendar, this sacred holiday celebrates the birth of the Sikh faith’s spiritual leader in 1469. Spreading messages of hard work, equality, social justice, community service and compassion, Sikhism has grown to become one of the world’s largest religions.

“As Sikhs across British Columbia observe Guru Nanak Gurpurab, we take this opportunity to recognize the universality of Sikh values as well as the  significant contributions of Sikh communities in helping to shape our great province.

“On behalf of all British Columbians, I extend my best wishes to everyone commemorating the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.”
