Prabhraj Rai charged with fraud over $5K

Mounties in Surrey say they've laid fraud charges against 34-year-old man, Prabhraj Rai, who allegedly duped people in real estate investment deals.

Surrey R-C-M-P say their financial crimes unit investigated the alleged fraud spanning from 2015 to 2021 after a victim came forward claiming they lost millions of dollars in real estate investment opportunities.

Police say Raj allegedly committed large-scale financial fraud and was arrested and charged with fraud over five-thousand dollars.

Mounties say the man has been released on conditions pending his next court appearance.

Police in Port Moody say they’ve seized hundreds of pieces of identification, stolen mail, stolen licence plates and devices used to make fake I-Ds. It started back in July when police were called to a report of a mail theft, and officers pulled over a stolen vehicle linked to the theft about a month later.

The not-for-profit Community Legal Assistance Society officially launched the program Tuesday, which offers three hours of legal advice to people regardless of age, gender or income, or whether they have reported the assault to police.
