Postmedia Appoints New Editors At Toronto Sun And Ottawa Sun

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 26 May, 2015 12:36 PM
TORONTO — Postmedia has announced two new editors at papers in Toronto and Ottawa as it works to bring its operations together with its recently purchased Sun Media properties.

Former Rob Ford press secretary Adrienne Batra is the new editor of the Toronto Sun.

She left the mayor's office in 2011 to become the paper's opinion editor and remained a columnist during her time hosting a talk show on the Sun News Network.

The all-news TV channel was shut down in February as Postmedia finalized its $316-million purchase of the 174 Sun Media newspapers and publications from Quebecor.

The company also appointed Ottawa Citizen city editor Keith Bonnell as editor of the Ottawa Sun.

Bonnell was senior editor at Postmedia News, the company's wire service that was shuttered in 2013.

Wendy Metcalfe, who currently holds both positions, said on Twitter that she is leaving the organization.

Postmedia, which publishes the National Post and other newspapers and digital content, has been trying to turn around its money-losing operations as more advertisers shift away from traditional print publications to social media sites and search engines.

In May, 76-year-old Postmedia president and CEO Paul Godfrey renewed his contract to lead the company until December 2018.
