Police have arrested a man who allegedly smashed several vehicle windows in the parking lot of Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody.

Police say officers were called to the hospital on Monday just before 9 p-m after a man allegedly smashed the windows of vehicles parked in the lot, then threatened a security guard before fleeing.

Officers arrested a man matching the suspect description a short time later a few blocks away from the hospital.

Police say 34-year-old Nicholas Yachiw has been charged and remains in custody after officers found the man in possession of possible stolen property including passports.

Newly elected members of the Northwest Territories legislature have chosen their next premier.  R.J. Simpson, the legislature member for Hay River North, won on the second round of voting Thursday.
