Port Alberni RCMP Arrest Local Teacher for Making Child Pornography

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 16 Jun, 2016 01:50 PM
A proactive online investigation by the BC Integrated Child Exploitation (BC ICE) Unit has resulted in charges of Making Child Pornography. On June 9, 2016, 36 year old Daniel Oliver was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of Making Child Pornography.

The investigation began in May 2016, when a covert online investigator, posing as a single mother of an 8 year old daughter, was approached by Mr. Oliver in an online chat forum, known for child exploitation activity.

On June 9, 2016, Daniel Oliver was identified by the BC ICE Unit and it was determined Mr. Oliver was a teacher in Port Alberni. Port Alberni RCMP quickly located and arrested Mr. Oliver for Making Child Pornography. Search warrants were executed at several locations.

On June 14, 2016, Mr. Oliver appeared in a Port Alberni Provincial Court and was released from custody on a Recognizance of Bail, with strict conditions governing his access to children and the Internet. The investigation into Mr. Oliver is ongoing at this time.

The BC ICE unit is actively seeking out child predators using covert online techniques throughout British Columbia. Corporal Natalie Davis of the BC ICE Unit states, Safeguarding the children of British Columbia is the primary focus for the Members of our team.

The offenders located in child exploitation focused chat forums, with like-minded individuals, pose a great risk to hands-on offending. BC ICE pro-actively targets these forums using online covert techniques, and has had great success in identifying and prosecuting these child sex offenders across the Province.

If you believe you or someone you know has been a victim of this or any crime, please contact your local police to report, or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 1-800-22-8477 (TIPS), or Text CRIMES (274634).
