Police Watchdog Launches Investigation Following Arrest In Maple Ridge

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Sep, 2016 10:55 AM
  • Police Watchdog Launches Investigation Following Arrest In Maple Ridge
SURREY, B.C. — A probe has been launched after a man was seriously injured during a police takedown in New Westminster, B.C.

The Independent Investigations Office says officers from the Vancouver Police Department were arresting several people Monday when a male bystander was bit by a police dog.

They say a woman was also hurt, but her injuries do not classify as serious harm so the agency is not investigating that case.

The IIO independently investigates any police-involved serious injury or death in B.C. to determine whether an officer may have committed an offence.

Acting Sgt. Brian Montague with the Vancouver Police Department has said two people were injured Monday when officers across the Lower Mainland apprehended three suspects related to a double homicide and kidnapping investigation.

He has said the injuries were the result of a fast-paced, uncertain situation.
