B-C's police watchdog says it's investigating an incident in Vancouver in which one man was seriously injured.

The Independent Investigations Office says Vancouver police reported that a man had been arrested and taken to the department's jail cells last Sunday afternoon.

It says the man was found to be in medical distress the next morning, and paramedics took him to hospital for treatment.

The office did not provide any further details, but says its initial investigative steps include confirming the details of what happened during and after the arrest, as well as the cause of his distress.
