Police watchdog called after fatal shooting in Penticton

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 23 Oct, 2024 11:01 AM
  • Police watchdog called after fatal shooting in Penticton

Mounties in British Columbia's southern Interior say they've notified the provincial police watchdog after a confrontation that left one man dead and an officer injured.

Penticton RCMP say they received multiple 911 calls Tuesday reporting a man acting erratically and allegedly waving a knife.

They say "an interaction occurred" between the man and an officer, and the fired their gun.

The Mounties say the man was provided first aid before being taken to hospital, but he later died.

The officer was also taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and has since been released.

RCMP say the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is now investigating the actions of police.

Choice is between BC United and NDP, says Kevin Falcon, shrugging off Conservatives
Competition with the B.C. Conservatives, who have two seats in the legislature and are riding high in opinion polls, and the name change to BC United from the BC Liberal Party, will not be major deciding factors in the October 2024 campaign, Falcon said. Vote splitting on the political right has always been an issue in B.C. elections, but the potential threat to BC United from the provincial Conservatives will fizzle when voters realize they are not Pierre Poilievre's federal Conservatives, said Falcon.
