Police shooting near Winnipeg leaves one dead, one under arrest and one at large

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 05 Jun, 2024 01:33 PM
  • Police shooting near Winnipeg leaves one dead, one under arrest and one at large

A man is dead, a woman is in custody and police are hunting for another man after a shooting south of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg police say they were alerted by RCMP early this morning about a stolen truck believed to be occupied by people with guns, heading toward the city.

Police say a chase ensued, lasting about one hour, into the city and back out again.

They say the stolen vehicle rammed a police cruiser, officers fired, and the suspects fled.

They say officers caught up to the truck, managed to arrest a woman who tried to flee on foot, and found a man in the car who had been shot and later died.

One man got into another vehicle and fled, and RCMP in Saskatchewan say the suspect — 29-year-old David Burling — was last seen driving on a highway near Esterhazy.

Students in Niverville, Manitoba, schools were told they would be spending recess and lunch indoors as a precaution as the investigation continues.
