Police Shooting Injures Man In West Kelowna, B.C., Watchdog Investigates

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 16 Sep, 2019 07:26 PM

KELOWNA, B.C. - The Mounties says officers shot and wounded a man during a confrontation Friday in a park in West Kelowna, B.C.

A statement from the RCMP says police received a complaint about a man jumping in front of a vehicle.

It says officers found a man they believed was connected to the complaint in Bear Creek Provincial Park and he was carrying a pair of garden shears.

While attempting an arrest, the RCMP say there was an interaction and the man was shot by police.

Police say the injured man then ran into Okanagan Lake where he swam to a log boom.

They say it took police several hours to convince him to surrender.

The Mounties say the Independent Investigations Office, which examines incidents of death or serious harm involving police, will conduct a probe into the shooting.
