Police seek suspects in interrupted break and enter who pepper sprayed a man

Darpan News Desk West Vancouver Police, 26 May, 2021 04:18 PM
  • Police seek suspects in interrupted break and enter who pepper sprayed a man

West Vancouver Police are asking for information that may help them to identify two suspects responsible for an early morning residential break and enter.

On Tuesday, May 25, at 7:18 hrs, officers responded to a report of a break and enter in the 2500 blk of Westhill Dr. According to the homeowner, and sole occupant of the house, he had woken up just after 7:00 am to find two men standing in his bedroom. When confronted, the suspects deployed pepper spray, and fled.

The 52-year-old victim tried to follow the suspects, but was briefly incapacitated by the pepper spray. He reported seeing the suspects flee in a large black Chevrolet SUV, Northbound on Westhill Dr.

Officers immediately set up containment in an effort to locate the vehicle. Containment was held for 90 minutes, but the suspect vehicle was not located.

It was determined that the suspects had likely entered via an unlocked or faulty garage door.

It is believed that the suspects were unaware that the house was occupied when they entered.

“We don’t believe that the suspects were aware that the home was occupied when they broke in,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “We are hoping that someone may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could help with this investigation.”

The suspects managed to steal personal items from the home, including a wallet, $1500 cash, and a laptop computer.

The victim did not suffer any lasting injuries and was treated at scene by EHS for pepper spray contamination.

The investigation is ongoing.
