Police say nurse injured, patient facing arrest after attack at B.C. hospital

* The Canadian Press, 03 Mar, 2015 08:48 AM

    ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Police say a nurse is injured and a patient is facing imminent arrest after an attack at an Abbotsford, B.C., hospital.

    Const. Ian MacDonald says a 39-year-old nurse was suddenly struck several times while he was providing treatment to a 23-year-old patient over the weekend.

    He says there appears to have been no buildup to the altercation, which left the nurse with injuries to his left eye that required stitches.

    The patient has now been transferred to a psychiatric facility, and officers say he will be arrested upon release.

    The B.C. Nurses' Union says the attack underlines a need for better protection for nurses from violent and aggressive patients.

    Ken Donohue from the Fraser Health Authority says the incident is under review. (CKNW)
