Police, Judges Legislators Meet To Discuss Balancing Cybercrime With Privacy

The Canadian Press, 25 Jul, 2016 12:29 PM
HALIFAX — Judges, lawyers, legislators and law enforcement officials from around the world are meeting in Halifax to discuss the unique challenges of delivering justice in the digital age.

Members of the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law say they'll tackle issues such as cyber-stalking, cyber-bullying and Internet luring at their 29th annual conference.

Organizers say the anonymity of the online world, along with the lack of national boundaries, creates space for virtually untraceable criminal activity.

But they say technology has also provided tools to fight crime through surveillance and information-sharing.

They will look at international co-operation in the fight against cybercrime, human rights implications of sharing personal information, boundaries of surveillance and the use and potential abuse of personal data.
