Homicide investigators are probing the death of an infant in Metro Vancouver.

A statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says police in New Westminster responded to a call about an unresponsive one-year-old around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday.

It says police determined the circumstances of the death are suspicious.

IHIT says it's working with local police and the BC Coroners Service as well as speaking with family and friends to determine what happened.

No further details are being released.
