Police In Southern Alberta Investigate Facebook Post About Transgender Woman

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Apr, 2016 12:58 PM
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Police in Lethbridge are investigating a complaint that an officer allegedly posted a comment on Facebook about a transgender woman attending a women's event.

The post questions why Dillon Hargreaves was at Tuesday's ceremony at the Alberta legislature that recognized 100 years of women's suffrage in the province.

In the post, the writer suggests her attendance "makes a mockery of important women's issues."

The post also calls Hargreaves a "transgender male."

The complaint, filed by the Trans Equality Society of Alberta, says the post raises questions about the treatment of transgender people at the hands of Lethbridge police.

Police say in a statement that all officers receive diversity training and the force is committed to bias-free policing.
