Police Identify Victim Of Fatal Stabbing Outside Pub In Coquitlam, B.C.

The Canadian Press, 09 Aug, 2016 10:53 AM
COQUITLAM, B.C. — Police have identified the man who was fatally stabbed outside a pub in Coquitlam, B.C., over the weekend.

He was Robert Harold Vidovich, a 55-year-old resident of Coquitlam.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says police were called to a parking lot Sunday afternoon and found a man suffering from serious injuries.

Investigators say evidence suggests Vidovich was stabbed with an edged weapon, but it is not known whether he knew his attacker, who fled on foot.

Police say Vidovich was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers were working to determine a motive for the crime but the suspect is still on the loose.

A police dog assisted investigators but the suspect could not be found.

“IHIT continues to work alongside the Forensics Unit, the Coroner’s Service, and the Coquitlam RCMP in an effort to identify and locate the male suspect,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster in a statement.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, possibly wearing a black hoodie, pants and backpack, 5-8 to 5-10 tall, and weighing 150 pounds.

Vidovich’s next of kin has been notified of his death. Investigators said it is unclear if he knew the attacker.

Anyone with information can contact the IHIT Tipline at 1-877-551-4448, or remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
