Police Identify Bhavkiran (Kiran) Dhesi As Young Woman Found Dead Inside Burned Vehicle In Surrey

Darpan News Desk, 03 Aug, 2017 04:16 PM

Surrey: On August 2, 2017 just after 12:20 a.m. the Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the 18700-block of 24 Avenue. When police arrived, the Surrey Fire Department had extinguished the flames. Inside the vehicle was a deceased female body that had sustained injuries consistent with homicide. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was contacted and has taken lead.

The female victim has been identified as Bhavkiran (Kiran) DHESI, 19 of Surrey. Miss Dhesi was last seen leaving the family home on Tuesday August 1 at 9 p.m. From the evidence recovered so far Miss DHESI’s homicide was not random.

IHIT is working closely with the Surrey RCMP to determine motive, and Miss DHESI’s whereabouts prior to her murder. Miss Dhesi was not known to police, and the investigation to date indicates that her death was not related to gang activity.

Police are working tirelessly to advance this investigation and want to speak with any friends and acquaintances that knew Miss Dhesi. Cpl. Meghan Foster of IHIT says, Miss Dhesi was a college student, and had recently recovered from a kidney transplant. This death is a crushing blow to Miss Dhesi’s family, and they are suffering terribly.

Known to friends as Kiran, the 19-year-old was a student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and had been on kidney dialysis since the ninth grade. She recently underwent a successful kidney transplant and had recovered, said a friend who did not want to be identified.

“She persevered through all of that and to have this happen is overwhelming for her family,” said Cpl. Megan Foster with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “They’re very upset and our thoughts and hearts are with them right now.”

“I can’t speak to the nature of the association in which these persons of interests are,” said Foster, when asked if any of the people being interviewed was a boyfriend or if they had criminal associations.

“What we’re hoping is that people who knew her will contact us so we can follow up with them and move forward in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
