Police Hope Video Footage Will Help Solve Mystery Of Stanley Park Assault

Darpan News Desk, 01 Feb, 2017 12:38 PM
The VPD continue to ask for the public’s help to solve a mystery after police found a severely injured man in Stanley Park last fall.

Just after 2 am on Wednesday, November 16th, police were called to the parking lot north of Brockton Oval by a passerby. Officers found an 82-year-old Vancouver man behind the wheel of his 2011 grey Toyota Corolla, suffering from serious injuries. He remains in hospital.

Investigators have located video of a man in the area at the time of the incident. They have not been able to identify him, and are asking for the public’s assistance.

The man is seen walking with a limp towards the seawall from the totem poles. He’s wearing a light-coloured sports coat, dark pants, and white shoes.

“It’s not clear what role, if any, he played in the assault,” says VPD spokesperson Constable Jason Doucette. “We believe someone is going to recognize him from the video, and we need them to call us and help solve this mystery.”

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who was in Stanley Park during the early morning hours of November 16th last year, as well as anyone who may have seen the man in the video or who knows his identity. Please contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
