PM Trudeau Supports Seamus O'Regan After He Announces Decision To Go Into Wellness Program

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 04 Jan, 2016 01:21 PM
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is lending his support to Liberal MP Seamus O'Regan after the rookie politician said he had entered a wellness program to adopt "an alcohol free lifestyle."

Trudeau issued a statement on Twitter later Sunday saying, "My thoughts are with my friend and colleague @SeamusORegan tonight, and he has my full support."

O'Regan, who hosted CTV's Canada AM for nearly a decade, announced from his Twitter account that he had checked into the program over the holiday break.

O'Regan says he made the decision after consulting with family and plans to return to his duties as an MP for St. John's South-Mount Pearl before Parliament resumes later this month.

He also noted that he'd have more to say on the matter in the future, but asked for privacy until then.

O'Regan's husband expressed his support shortly after the announcement was made online.
