The Black Tie Affair, a gala fundraiser organized by PICS in support of PICS Diversity Village, a culturally sensitive extended care home for seniors on Saturday, garnered a whopping $400,000 (approx.) bringing the total up to an impressive $850,000 for the project.

Thanking all sponsors and the community PICS CEO Mr. Charan Gill said, “We are overwhelmed with the faith and support that the entire community has shown for this project. We can assure you that when built PICS Diversity village will indeed be a legacy our future generations will be proud of and a testament to the values and the traditional circle of care that we have all inherited.

More than 800 people attended the event including Canada’s National Defence Minister, Honourable Harjit Singh Sajjan who was also the key note speaker.

Minister Sajjan was accompanied by his wife and parents and emphasized how important it was for organizations like PICS to take leadership and build a home which caters to the needs of seniors in a culturally sensitive manner.

“PICS Diversity Village is a fantastic project. As demographics are changing considerably, the need for more and more culturally sensitive services are urgently required and I am glad to support this project,” said Minister Sajjan.

Other notable personalities included Provincial cabinet ministers Suzanne Anton, Peter Fassbender and Amrik Virk and her worship, Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner and many other MPs, MLAs, community leaders and friends of PICS.

In a message wishing PICS for a successful fundraiser, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “PICS Diversity Village will fulfill a vital need in the community. This long-term care facility will offer high quality, culturally-sensitive programs and services to seniors of South Asian descent, providing them with the care, companionship and sense of independence that allows them to live fulfilling lives”.

Premier Christy Clark also wished PICS in a video message. She lauded the efforts of CEO Charan Gill and PICS for the wonderful work PICS has been doing in making a difference in the lives of people.

The event was put together by PICS in close association with project management company,  The Concost Management Inc., who put up a glittering show for the gathered audience.
