Mounties in Coquitlam are reminding the public that its emergency and non-emergency lines are not meant for complaints about things like a cold fast-food burger.
Police say that was one of many calls they had to 9-1-1 that take away staff time from helping someone with a life-threatening situation.
Other calls include someone who said they were frightened after watching a scary movie, while another called for help because they’d been put on hold six times at a pharmacy.
Communications supervisor Jill Van Os says they have to treat every call as if it’s an emergency until they determine otherwise, and police help in getting a refund for cold food is not an emergency.
