VANCOUVER - A former RCMP officer who was involved in Robert Dziekanski's fatal confrontation with police at Vancouver's airport seven years ago is expected to be in court today to stand trial for perjury.
Former corporal Benjamin (Monty) Robinson was among four officers who went to Vancouver's airport the night Dziekanski was stunned with an RCMP Taser and died.
All four officers testified at a subsequent public inquiry, and they were all later charged with perjury for that testimony.
Robinson, who was convicted of obstruction of justice in an unrelated case, is no longer a member of the RCMP.
One of the officers, Const. Bill Bentley, was acquitted of the perjury charge after a trial last year, though the Crown has appealed that verdict.
A third officer is expected to stand trial next month, while the fourth trial is expected next year.
