On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 9:49 pm, Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to a collision involving a pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 between McCallum Road and Sumas Way.

Upon arrival, emergency service workers located a pedestrian in the westbound lanes who a semi-truck had struck. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by BC EHS.  Sadly, they have succumbed to their injuries. The AbbyPD are currently confirming the identity of the deceased and have no further details at this time.

The driver involved in the collision remained on the scene and is cooperating with this investigation. The driver did not sustain any injuries and is very shaken by this incident.

The Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, police investigators and the B.C. Coroners Service continues its investigation.

Highway 1 was closed westbound between Sumas Way and McCallum Road but is now open. 

Investigators seek witnesses, CCTV footage and dashcam footage from those who may have been travelling on the highway just before this collision.

It is out of character for Siasat Cheema to be out of contact, and police and family are concerned for his well-being. Siasat Cheema is described as a 30 year old, South Asian man, 6 ft., 199 lbs., with black hair and a short beard. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
