Pedaling Surrey Police Officer Completes Tour De Valley

Darpan News Desk, 30 Sep, 2016 12:45 PM
  • Pedaling Surrey Police Officer Completes Tour De Valley
Cycling has always been a passion for Surrey RCMP Constable Alexandre Levesque. When he heard about the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley, he jumped at the chance to combine his love of biking with his role as a police officer, all for an important cause.

Cst. Levesque joined the Surrey RCMP in July 2015 as a general duty officer. Originally from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, he knew from a young age that he wanted to be a police officer to give back to the community and to catch bad guys! After studying Police Sciences in school, he accepted a spot at Depot, the RCMP Training Academy in Regina. His future career ambitions include joining the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team.

I always believed that the RCMP would offer many career and life opportunities, and that belief has been confirmed during my time with Surrey Detachment, explains Cst. Levesque. To be given the chance to participate in the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley and give back to the bravest young people I’ve ever met is truly an honour.

This past summer, Cst. Levesque and his fellow teammates from numerous law enforcement agencies spent their days offtraining for the 800 kilometre bike ride and fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society and pediatric cancer programs such a Camp Goodtimes. Camp Goodtimes allows children, teens and the families of those affected by cancer the chance to connect with others facing the same struggles in a fun and supportive environment.

I am very proud of Cst. Levesque and all of the Tour de Valley members, says Assistant Commissioner Bill Fordy, who had the opportunity to join the Tour for a day on September 24th. Many of us have lost colleagues or family members to cancer. The Surrey RCMP is honoured to participate in this ride every year and assist in raising funds and awareness for cancer programs and research.

We are so pleased with the work of our amazing 2016 Tour de Valley Team. Says Allan Mugford, Regional Director for the Canadian Cancer Society. Seeing this group come together and ride in support of childhood cancer research and Camp Goodtimes is inspiring and we genuinely thank each of our Riders, Crew and Community Supporters for making a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer.

Yesterday the team stopped by Surrey Detachment and the cyclists were given a warm welcome from fellow officers and staff. The stop was one of the 80 stops and over 30 schools the team has visited on their journey. Cst. Levesque was able to put his French skills to good use during the visits to numerous French Immersion schools.
