Payments for GST rebate boost to go out today

OTTAWA - Canadians who are eligible for the GST rebate can expect to receive an additional lump-sum payment as early as today.

➡️ If you already receive GST credit payments, there is no need to apply for the additional one.
➡️ If you haven’t done your 2021 taxes, we encourage you to file as soon as possible.
➡️ Didn’t receive your payment yet? Don’t worry, it can take up to 10 business days to process.

A bill introduced by the Liberal government to temporarily double the rebate became law last month with unanimous support from opposition parties.

The NDP has long advocated for the measure to help low- and modest-income Canadians cope with the rising cost of living.

Inflation this year has reached levels not seen in four decades, with the annual inflation rate at 6.9 per cent in September.

The Canada Revenue Agency says people who are eligible for the rebate will see the payment deposited in their bank accounts today.

However, if the payment does not show up today, the CRA says people should allow up to 10 days for processing before contacting the agency.

Via release, police say they found a 25-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he is in stable condition. According to Mounties, initial indications are that this is an isolated incident and involves parties known to each other.

Rain, wind, snow hit large parts of B.C.

Environment Canada says downpours over the inner south coast, including eastern Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Metro Vancouver will deliver between 30 and 70 millimetres of rain. But it says chilly conditions could mean the rain falls as wet snow at slightly higher elevations across Metro Vancouver before conditions warm up on Friday.
