A man has been charged after a paramedic was assaulted while responding to a call in Victoria.
City police say it happened last night when a man began hitting and kicking a paramedic in the face as they tried to medically assist him.
They say officers attended the scene to arrest the man and bystanders in the area became increasingly hostile towards them after they deployed a taser during the arrest.
Police say the paramedic was injured and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
More than 50 people from a supportive-housing complex in Nanaimo were displaced Sunday after a fire in a mattress that was started by a cigarette. British Columbia Premier David Eby says construction of an $85-million expansion of kidney hemodialysis services in Surrey is set to start in August.
