Owner Ends Large Snake's Short-Lived Bid For Freedom In Esquimalt, B.C.

The Canadian Press, 29 Jun, 2016 11:57 AM
ESQUIMALT, B.C. — A roaming metre-long corn snake has been found by its owner, one day after it slithered out of its enclosure in Esquimalt, B.C.

In a tweet early Wednesday, Victoria police said the reptile was found overnight in the same apartment where it disappeared.

Initial reports Tuesday labelled the snake as a boa constrictor, prompting safety concerns from investigators.

But Const. Matt Rutherford said police were able to confirm the creature is a usually docile corn snake.

Brightly coloured corn snakes mainly eat small rodents and are popular pets, although an online forum about the species pegs them as good escape artists.
