Overnight Closures Of Pattullo Bridge Next Weekend

Darpan News Desk, 23 Jan, 2020 09:20 PM

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC — The Pattullo Bridge will be closed overnight on Friday January 31 and Saturday February 1 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

The bridge will be temporarily closed during these times for the testing of a recently installed early seismic warning and wind monitoring system.

The system’s sensors are designed to detect early warning signs of a significant high wind or seismic event.

Upon detection, traffic control gates, similar to those at railway crossings, will block the bridge entrances. The system will also initiate advanced warning lights and digital bridge closure signs alerting bridge users of the closure. The system will be ready for activation upon successful testing.

    Installation includes:

Seismic activity and wind warning sensors

    Bridge closure devices

    Advanced warning lights and signs

Pattullo Bridge users are encouraged to use the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges as alternatives during the closures. N19 bus trips will be re-routed over the Queensborough Bridge during the closures.

Affected customers should plan for an additional 30 minutes of travel time. Emergency vehicles will be able to cross the bridge in both directions at all times.
